New downtown sports complex project reaches halftime

Construction on the new downtown sports facility is now 50% complete.

Crews have been busy working on the project all summer long. In recent weeks they have nearly completed the installation of all the new exterior panels around the building. The building’s brand new roof is already in place.

Progress has also been made with the completion of the river path. Crews are now focusing on pouring concrete for the sidewalk/patio area and south river path.

You’ll also notice a lot of work begin done on the upper tier parking lot where the Rockford Linear Actuation factory and Rockford Public Schools administration building used to stand. Most of that land has been graded so work on the parking lot can begin soon.

Inside the building, the lower and upper mezzanine areas are starting to take shape.

The project remains on schedule for opening in May 2016.
